We are excited to announce our memberships for the 2023 summer season.
Our season will run from 20 May through to the last weekend in September. If the weather is on our side, we will continue into Autumn as long as possible.
The volunteer team has been working hard at training more members of the community to help us grow our sessions and membership base for this season. We are grateful for their incredible support, as with more volunteers this year, we can increase the number of members we can take to the beach!
We aim to grow from 20 beach members in 2022 to 60 junior and nipper members in 2023.
These numbers do not include our Lido sessions, which will be open to more from the community. We will share more information about those sessions soon, once we hear how the fantastic team at the Lido is progressing to ensure the pool is operable this year.
As soon as we have a date, we’ll share our plans for the Lido sessions.
Sessions / Membership types Currently, we are planning for two Saturday morning sessions: - Nippers, aged 8-12, Saturday’s 8.30-9.30 - Juniors, aged 13-16, Saturday’s 9.45-10.45
Membership Fee’s - £100 Saltdean Swim & Surf Club membership - £25 kit fee which includes their rash vest and hat - £25 SLSGB (Surf Lifesaving Great Britain) membership
Funded Places Every year we fund 20% of places through the club for those that need it most. If you require any financial assistance with joining the club / taking part in our activities, please email us (email below), and we will handle your request in the strictest of confidence.
Ability Requirements - All members must be able to swim 50m unaided - Tread water for three minutes unaided
As part of our insurance and affiliation to SLSGB, we must see the children perform these activities. We will be running pool sessions soon so that we can check on their ability to take part.
Kit/Equipment To take part in our activities, the children must have: - A full wetsuit covering full arms and legs - Wetsuit boots - Goggles – optional
At all sessions, all children should also bring a towel, warm clothes for before / after the session and water / snacks as needed.
Location Our membership is open to children in the local area comprising Ovingdean, Woodingdean, Rottingdean, Saltdean and Peacehaven. You must reside in this area to qualify for membership.
Membership Availability / Waiting List
Nipper Members Our nipper membership is already full for the 2023 season. We increased numbers from 20-30 children this year and have filled the additional spaces from the 2022 waiting list.
If you would like your child to go on the waiting list should we be able to add more sessions led by our volunteers, please email membership@saltdeanssc.org with the subject Nipper Waiting List along with your child’s name and age so that we can add them to the wait-list.
Junior Members We have a few spaces already filled by existing members aged since last season and those on the 2022 waiting list, but we DO have availability for more 13-16-year-olds to participate.
If you are interested in your child participating, please email membership@saltdeanssc.org with the subject Junior Membership and state your child’s name and age. Please ensure you email us by Wednesday the 10th of May.
If more people apply for spaces than we have available, we will go to a lottery system to randomly select children from the new waiting list to make up the membership for this season.
